The Descent from the Cross or Deposition of Christ, is the scene, as described in the art, from the Gospels' accounts of Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus taking Christ down from the cross after his crucifixion. In Byzantine art, the topic became famous in the 9th century, and in the West from the 10th century. The Descent from the Cross is the 13th Station of the Cross and is also the sixth of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Even in early paintings the details and posing of the composition, and especially the position of Christ's body, are varied. The scene was usually included in medieval cycles of the Life or the Passion of Christ, through the Crucifixion and the Entombment of Christ. The Lamentation of Christ, or Pietà, showing the body of Christ carried by Mary, may intervene between these two, and is common as an individual image, especially in sculpture. The posture of the body, showing Christ's body being carried to his tomb, and the Anointing of Christ's body, showing the body laid flat on the top of the tomb or a similarly shaped "anointing-stone" are other scenes that may be shown. This last is most important in Orthodox art, where it is shown on the Epitaphios.

Reproduction of oil painting is very expensive and a time taking process. The completed painting requires at least a week for drying completely. After that, we apply two layers of protective coating to secure the painting from dust and mold. Only completely dried painting can apply a coating or the painting will be damaged. The process of painting may take more than 4 weeks to 6 weeks based on the size and complexity.
For stretching, We will add a 1.6" additional white canvas border on all four sides for stretching purposes. We do not provide stretched canvas due to several issues. We cannot take the risk of damage while shipping. Also, there are size limitations for sending framed canvas. Shipping a large-sized stretched canvas might cost more than a painting itself. So we suggest you find a nearby local shop for the framing process.
After showing the final result to the customer for approval and after painting dried and ready for shopping. we will send you the painting in a fine hard plastic tube. You will receive a courier tracking number by e-mail.
